Maile Solís-Szukala’s practice focuses on complex commercial litigation, including insurance coverage, breach of contract, fiduciary duty, consumer fraud, class action defense and intellectual property matters. Ms. Solís-Szukala practices nationwide, with cases pending in California, Illinois, New Jersey, New York and Oklahoma.
Representative cases:
Wilson v. Brawn of California, Inc., 2005 WL 2108694 (Cal. App. 1st Dist.) (reversing judgment under California Unfair Competition Law in full and awarding costs to Brawn on grounds that insurance fee contained in catalog order form was neither illusory nor deceptive); McIntyre v. Household Bank, 2004 WL 2958690 (N.D. Ill. Dec. 21, 2004) (denying plaintiff’s motion for class certification and granting summary judgment on Truth-in-Lending Act, Illinois Consumer Fraud Act, and unjust enrichment claims); 216 F. Supp. 719 (N.D. Ill. 2002) (granting motion to stay proceedings based on arbitration clause).
On a pro bono basis, Ms. Solís-Szukala has obtained grants of asylum for persons fleeing persecution in Colombia, Congo-Brazzaville, El Salvador, Guatemala, Liberia, Nigeria and Somalia. Ms. Solís-Szukala serves on the Leadership Council of the Midwest Immigrants and Human Rights Center.
