State of Illinois (1985)Marty Behn’s practice focuses on providing a variety of business and contract related services and support to the firm’s corporate and individual clients.
Before joining Grippo & Elden, Mr. Behn served for ten years as General Counsel to Townsend Analytics, Ltd., a 200 person Chicago-based company that develops software for and distributes data to financial market participants around the world. As General Counsel, Mr. Behn provided a variety of legal services including negotiating and drafting the company’s software licensing agreements, marketing agreements, data distribution and licensing agreements and telecommunication master service agreements. Mr. Behn also worked with the company’s development and management team to protect its intellectual property and to assist third parties in their defense against patent infringement claims. In addition, Mr. Behn dealt with a variety of employee related matters, including noncompetition and nondisclosure agreements, and managed outside counsel on numerous matters including complex, high stakes commercial litigation and the sale of the company.
Mr. Behn also was a member of Townsend’s Executive Committee and Management Committee.
Prior to serving as General Counsel for Townsend, Mr. Behn was a partner with the law firm Schwartz, Cooper, Greenberger & Krauss. Mr. Behn’s practice at Schwartz Cooper encompassed general real estate, corporate and finance matters. Mr. Behn also created and chaired the firm’s Technology Law Practice Group, and provided corporate and other services to a number of Internet based companies.
Mr. Behn serves on the Board of Directors of Storycatchers Theatre, a not-for-profit organization that assists incarcerated Chicago-area teens write stories about their lives and then helps these youth produce and perform the stories as original theatre for their fellow inmates, families and the public.
